A regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov on May 8.
Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov said 27 years had passed since the occupation by the Armenian aggressors of the city of Shusha, the cradle of Azerbaijani music, one of the country`s marvelous places. “As the result of the occupation, landmark historical and cultural monuments, museums were destroyed in this picturesque Azerbaijani city. Despite international organizations` resolutions and decisions condemning Armenia`s policy of aggression, and despite leading countries` support for Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, the occupation still continues. As President Ilham Aliyev always says, Azerbaijan will never reconcile itself to the current situation and will restore its territorial integrity,” the Prime Minister noted.
Novruz Mammadov said the people of Azerbaijan were celebrating the 96th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev these days, adding that “the national leader`s memory lives and will live on in the heart and mind of each Azerbaijani citizen”. “It is the genius of national leader Heydar Aliyev that lies at the heart of Azerbaijan`s great strides, its successful advancement on the path of independence and the country`s continuous development. We owe our prosperous life and bright future to our immortal leader.”
Novruz Mammadov then highlighted the agenda of the meeting. The Prime Minister said the agenda included the discussion of the execution of the measures set out in the “2013-2018 State Program for combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors”, and a new project, as well as “The practice of drafting the enrollment plans in higher and secondary education institutions in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the drafting of the enrollment plan for the 2019-2020 academic year”.
The Prime Minister said that in 1996 national leader Heydar Aliyev initiated the establishment of a commission with the aim of coordinating efforts to combat drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking. “President Ilham Aliyev also identified the fight against drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking as a top priority for the country. The head of state set out serious tasks in this regard.” Highlighting outstanding accomplishments in this area, Novruz Mammadov stressed the role of the State Programs in achieving this success.
The Prime Minister pointed out the government`s attention to the development of education. Novruz Mammadov described an eight-fold increase in the budget spending on education in the past 15 years and the adoption of the “State Strategy for the development of education in the Republic of Azerbaijan” as an indicative of President Ilham Aliyev`s great attention to education. “The main objective is to build a quality education system in our country and prepare highly-qualified specialists with a broad world view.”
First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Vilayat Eyvazov and Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov delivered reports.
